Design Dossier: a designer's secret weapon is the coffee table book

Here at Huff Harrington, we all adore coffee table books and we get so excited when a new shipment arrives.  But  as Trudy, our head of design here at Huff Harrington Design, has taught us coffee table books are more than just gorgeous pages of drool-worthy interiors and vignettes.  They're actually a designer's secret weapon.

I can't even count how many times the design team has loaded up dozens of coffee table books to take to installations.  "They're the perfect accessory," explains Trudy. "They add structure, height, color and can be a window into a client's personality."

If you visit HH or have seen our interior design work, you'll find coffee table books just about everywhere. We'll prop them on a console, in bookshelves and on a coffee table.  They make excellent bases for other accessories, like frames, objects or even smaller paintings on easels.

Coffee table books can inject a little or a lot of color into a vignette.  (Once Ann and I were wrapping up an apartment in Paris and desperately needed some coffee table books for that final layer.  We only found one convenient bookstore that even carried coffee table books. When we explained we only wanted large books with pink or white spines, we were met with a withering stare!)

Apart from their aesthetic value, coffee table books are a pure visual (and often literary) delight. The photography is usually gorgeous - especially if you love all things interior design.

We've got lots of new arrivals on our book table and can't wait to dive into them. Check them all out right here. Some of our new faves are these:

And whether they're part of your design-scape or on your list to actually sit down and read, don't forget coffee table books are the secret weapon to a layered and well-appointed room.
